The Thangam Grand

We booked this hotel for a short trip to Madurai, just for a one-night stay with our 6-month-old baby. Since this was the first time we were travelling with our child, safety and cleanliness were extremely important to us, and we did not want to compromise on them.I was really shocked after entering the hotel room. There were too many mosquitoes ’ literally sitting on the bed, walls, and every nook and corner of the room. After a long argument with the reception staff, they provided just one mosquito coil and a pedestal fan.This is definitely not the standard expected from a 4-star hotel.The next morning, I got a chance to speak with the guest staying in the next room, and he also mentioned that his family could not sleep the entire night because of the mosquito problem.

The entrance itself was very presentable and grand, just like its name, Thangam Grand. The spacious waiting hall, good lighting, and well-arranged parking facilities were truly appreciable. Even though it is located in a highly busy traffic area, the arrangements were made in such a way that it did not disturb the public, which shows very good planning and organization.The party hall had a royal look, and the air-conditioning kept the entire hall comfortable throughout the event.Coming to the food, I personally loved it. Both vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes were served. My personal favorites were the biriyani and the veg fry. The soup starter was also very tasty and well prepared.Even after the program, the parking arrangements were well managed, which made the exit smooth and convenient for everyone.Overall, it was a very pleasant and well-organized experience.

I had a very disappointing experience at Thangam Grand Hotel, Madurai.I had booked the hotel online and confirmed an early check-in at 8:00 AM in advance with the hotel staff. However, upon reaching the hotel, I was told that check-in would only be allowed at 12:00 PM because the booking was made online, which was completely contradictory to what had been confirmed earlier. If I had known that they will change the checkin time due to online booking, I would have booked another hotel.What made the situation worse was that the hotel manager was fully aware of this issue and supported the staff’s stance, instead of honoring the prior confirmation.After requesting and waiting for 2Hr, we were forced to take another room by paying an additional ’1500, even though I had already paid around ’6000 for the booking. Since I was traveling with an infant and the 6000 was non refundable, I had to pay the extra amount.The room quality was below average, not properly clean, and absolutely not worth the total price paid, especially after the additional charges.The experience worsened further during breakfast. The food was not fresh, and when we requested freshly made parathas, the staff refused, stating that fresh food would only be prepared after the old stock was finished. This is completely unacceptable for a hotel charging premium rates.This reflects poor management, lack of professionalism, misleading communication, extra charges, and substandard service. I would not recommend this hotel, especially for families or anyone expecting basic hospitality and honest dealings.

I Stayed here recently and honestly it was a good experience. Check-in was quick, rooms are spacious and well-furnished, and the bed was comfortable. The housekeeping was efficient and the staff were polite. Close to major spots in the city which made it easy to travel around.
