The building is old and so the rooms. But they were neatly kept. Breakfast spread and quality was fantastic. Didn't use the Pool but the Bar was well stocked and good amount of complimentary snacks provided. Over all for the price excellent stay. Definitely recommend

Disappointing experience for a property marketed as a 4-star hotel I stayed at Ambassador Pallava, Egmore, for one night, and unfortunately the experience did not match what I expected from a property marketed as a 4-star hotel. The hotel has a beautiful heritage ambience, with a lovely old-world, royal Pallava-era feel. However, the basic standards of the rooms and hospitality need considerable improvement. Hygiene was my biggest concern. The bed linen had visible stains and several strands of hair on it. The white bedspread also had small hairs scattered across it, and the pillow underneath the white cover had noticeable brown stains. Interestingly, the common washroom near the lobby was clean and well maintained, which made the condition of the rooms even more surprising. For a hotel positioned as 4-star, basic hygiene should be non-negotiable. We had booked two rooms. One was fine, but the other had a strong cigarette-smoke smell throughout, and we had to request room freshener. We were also told the rooms had a master bed, but both rooms actually had two twin beds pushed together, leaving an uncomfortable partition in the middle. Hospitality was another area that needs improvement. We arrived with considerable luggage, and despite staff and the security guard seeing us struggling with it, nobody offered assistance. We managed ourselves, but it was disappointing. The gym experience was particularly unpleasant. We went around 7:15 p.m. and had not been informed at reception that sports shoes were compulsory. While we were working out, a female staff member approached us and repeatedly questioned us about our shoes in a very rude and confrontational tone. I understand that safety rules need to be followed, but the same information could have been communicated politely. The issue was not the rule itself, but the manner in which it was conveyed. We were later asked to leave when the gym closed at 8 p.m.; the manager who spoke to us was considerably more courteous. We also found the behaviour of another staff member around the gym and pool uncomfortable. He repeatedly followed us into these areas, stood very close while we were exercising or swimming, and offered unsolicited instructions. This made us uncomfortable and could have been handled with much more sensitivity. The breakfast was a positive: the food was tasty, although the variety could be improved. As someone who follows a vegan diet, I was also disappointed by the lack of suitable dairy-free options. Even a basic plant-based milk option would be helpful for guests with dietary preferences or requirements. Overall, the beautiful ambience and good breakfast were positives, but they cannot compensate for shortcomings in room hygiene, comfort and guest handling. I hope the management takes this feedback constructively. With better housekeeping standards, clearer communication of policies and stronger staff training, Ambassador Pallava could genuinely become a much better hotel experience and live up to the standard guests expect from a 4-star property.
