Disappointing experience despite a premium bookingI stayed at Hotel Dimora Thiruvananthapuram from August 15–16 with two friends. We booked 1 room for 3 adults through Agoda for around 8,600, including breakfast and dinner.Unfortunately, the experience at the hotel was extremely disappointing, mainly because of the way we were treated by some of the staff.The three of us arrived on two-wheelers. One friend initially came by Uber but got down about 50 metres away and joined us on the bike, so we entered the hotel riding three people on one two-wheeler. The security staff started laughing at us, and the front-office staff also witnessed it.After parking, when I went to the front office and showed our Agoda booking confirmation, the duty manager/senior executive checked the booking details for several minutes. His attitude and body language gave us the strong impression that he was judging us based on the fact that we had arrived on a bike—as if people arriving on two-wheelers couldn’t possibly have an 8,600 hotel booking. It felt extremely disrespectful and judgmental.He then proceeded to explain that minibar items were chargeable if used. Of course, I understand that minibar items aren’t complimentary. But the way it was explained to us, combined with the overall attitude, felt very condescending. We have stayed at several major five-star hotels in Kerala, so being spoken to in that manner was particularly disappointing.Another incident happened at the swimming pool. After the three of us finished swimming and came out of the pool, the security guard addressed me as “Da, it’s not nilon.” Regardless of what he meant, addressing a paying hotel guest as “Da” is completely inappropriate and unprofessional in a hotel of this category.The issue isn’t about arriving on a bike or being reminded about hotel policies. The issue is basic respect and professionalism. Guests should not be judged by their vehicle, appearance, or how they arrive at the property.The hotel itself is decent, but the attitude of some staff seriously affected our stay. For a hotel charging 8,600 for a one-night stay, I expected much better hospitality and professionalism.Overall: Very disappointing experience. The management needs to seriously improve staff training and guest handling.
