I chose Hycinth Trivandrum primarily because of its excellent location. It’s centrally located and within easy reach of the railway station, KSRTC bus stand, and long-distance bus services, making it a very convenient choice for travelers.My first impression of the hotel was actually quite positive. On an earlier visit, I had dined at the restaurant, and both the food and service were excellent. Unfortunately, my stay experience was very different.I arrived at around 10:00 AM, well before the official 2:00 PM check-in time. I fully understood that an early check-in might not be possible and was even willing to pay for it if a room was available. The front desk informed me that the hotel was fully occupied due to a wedding and that check-out time was 11:00 AM.That was perfectly reasonable. However, what followed was disappointing. After 11:00 AM, I repeatedly checked for an update—11:15, 11:30, and beyond—but was only told to “wait another hour.” I stepped out, returned around 12:30 PM, and still no room was available. Eventually, I received my room only at around 2:00 PM, the regular check-in time.What concerned me far more was another incident I witnessed in the lobby. A group of women were handed keys to a room around 11:00 AM. Barely five minutes later, they returned laughing in disbelief because when they opened the room, a guest was still asleep inside with his luggage.For a hotel that markets itself as a five-star property, this was alarming. It suggested a serious lapse in housekeeping coordination and room status management. The front desk appeared genuinely surprised rather than apologetic. Eventually, the manager stepped in and offered the guests a complimentary dinner, but the situation should never have occurred in the first place.The room itself was spacious, clean, and comfortable, although some of the toiletries were either incomplete or not properly arranged.One aspect that truly stood out positively was the inclusion of an employee with a hearing and speech disability. He was courteous, efficient, and seemed to manage guest movements with remarkable professionalism. Ironically, he appeared more organized and attentive than several members of the front-office team. It was wonderful to see an inclusive workplace, and he deserves appreciation for his excellent work.Overall:Hycinth scores highly for location and comfortable rooms, but the front-office operations and guest management fell well below what I would expect from a five-star hotel. With stronger operational coordination and better attention to guest experience, this property could be much better. I hope the management addresses these issues, as the hotel has significant potential.
