ITC Grand Chola has been on my must-visit list for a while, mainly because I wanted to try Avartana. Although I didn’t get to dine there this time, I finally stayed at the hotel, and it was a positive experience overall. The exterior is stunning and truly lives up to its grand palace reputation. Inside, however, the layout is somewhat confusing. The hotel is huge, but the corridors and pathways feel maze-like, and the interior design could have been more user-friendly. I stayed in a Club Room with three adults, and the space was ample for all of us. The service was consistently prompt, polite, and efficient. Breakfast stood out as a highlight. The South Indian dishes, especially the dosas and pongal, were authentic and well made, and the omelettes were great. On the other hand, my visit to Café Mercara Express was underwhelming. I tried the koli curry and parathas, but both seemed generic and lacked the authenticity I expected from a hotel of this caliber. The property offers many restaurants and lovely common areas to explore. We spent some time by the pool, which was tranquil and perfect for a relaxing evening. My only critique is that while the hotel’s exterior impresses greatly, the interiors and rooms don’t quite reach that same level of luxury. Having stayed at The Leela in Bengaluru, I anticipated a similar refinement in rooms and interiors, but ITC Grand Chola felt a bit behind in ambiance and finish. Overall, it remains a very good luxury hotel with excellent service, spacious rooms, a great breakfast, and a convenient location near Guindy. I would gladly stay here again—especially to finally try Avartana.
