Affectionately known as Scotland of East, Shillong retains its old world colonial charm, while offering ample modern amenities. The highest peak here, Shillong Peak, offers astounding views of the natural splendour around. Besides its majestic waterfalls and other mesmerizing natural delights, Shillong has quite a few other charms as well. For instance, the huge artificial Umiam Lake is one must visit spot, often compared to the Lochs Lake of Scotland. Those with an interest in culture and history would do well to spend some time at the Don Bosco Museum of Indigenous North East Culture.
