What is Air India?
Air India is the national flag carrier of India. They were the first commercial airlines to start operations and are currently the longest serving airlines in the country. They are a part of the National Aviation of India Limited. Air India started operations in 1932 and are currently headquartered at Delhi (Indira Gandhi International Airport) and Mumbai (Chatrapathi Shivaji International Airport). They operate to 95 destinations around the world and offer both passenger and cargo service.
Initially Air India was flagged to handle international and long haul flights while its counterpart Indian Airlines were responsible for the domestic and short distance travel.
Since March 2007, Air India and Indian Airlines have combined to form one of Asia's largest airlines by fleet with over 110 aircrafts, and seek to join the Global Star Alliance soon.
As part of Air India, Air India Express is a low cost catering career which was recently added to serve the domestic sectors and offer cheap cost, comfortable and convenient travel.
Where all do they fly?
Air India covers over 95 destinations both in the country and world wide. They offer state of the art facility for their international and domestic travel. Air India covers 50 world-wide destinations. For one traveling in the domestic routes (within India) important destinations like Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata and Bangalore are covered. International ports such as Hong Kong, Bangkok, Frankfurt, Dar-es-Salam, Doha, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Chicago, New York and a host of others are also a part of the route Air India flies to.
What do they offer?
The Maharajah, who is the official mascot, welcomes passengers to what he calls the palace in the sky. To all first class and executive passengers, 5 international lounges are offered at the various terminals.
Air India alone has 102 aircrafts to offer passengers which span a fleet of 5 different airline families. Air India plans to expand its fleet by another 66 more aircrafts in the near future bringing it to a tally of 168, which is the largest of any Indian Airlines.
Air India, as per the formal announcement in 2007, is set to become a member of the Star Alliance by 2009.

Baggage information
The following baggage allowances are permitted free of charge as per of the weight system.
First Class - 40 Kilos.
Executive Class - 30 Kilos.
Economy Class - 20 Kilos.
Infants are allowed 10kgs checked in baggage but are not entitled to a seat.
One checked or carried collapsible stroller or carry cot or bassinet or car seat for infant can be carried in the passenger cabin subject to availability of space.Child fare passengers are entitled to the same baggage allowance as adults.
