Shalom Backpackers Shimla

Clean hotel a 15 min steep walk from shimla mall, free drinking water, food served on-site, hot showers, stayed in dorm and would recommend for solo travellers, rooms for families.

I recently stayed at Shalom Backpackers, Shimla. The property is clean, well-maintained, and the location is very good.The lady at the reception was polite and behaved professionally, which made the initial check-in experience smooth. The manager was also welcoming at first.However, my experience later turned disappointing. I had booked a 4-bed mixed dorm, but I was assigned a room with a married couple, which was uncomfortable. When I raised this concern in the evening, the manager responded rudely and was not helpful in resolving the issue.When I requested an alternative or even a private room (even if it cost more), his response was unprofessional and dismissive, saying “mehenga padega,” which felt inappropriate rather than helpful.Additionally, basic amenities like soap, toothpaste, slippers, and even drinking water were not provided. When I asked about it, I was told to arrange everything from outside.Overall, while the property and reception staff were good, the manager’s behavior and lack of support need improvement.

On the main road, very much noise from horns and honkings. No Himalayan peace in Shimla.Cleaners do not really clean rooms. They do not change sheets after checkouts. They just make it look decent. But it is not.A random guy, I think a worker, entered my shared room to wash his teeth. As if it is normal.Nobody in reception speaks minimum English.Only plus point, they asked me if the permanence was good.
