Taj Theog Resort & Spa, Shimla

We stayed at Taj Theog from September 1 to 5 with our six-month-old baby. What should have been a peaceful family vacation was marred by illness, a disappointing pickup experience, and unresolved billing problems as of this writing. The most troubling issue was the coffee I ordered at night. After drinking it, I noticed the milk seemed off. I then developed gastrointestinal problems, which I believe were caused by food poisoning from the coffee, and had to see a doctor. This ruined a large part of my holiday. Although I reported this to the hotel, no meaningful response or follow-up was given. I expected a food safety complaint to be handled much more seriously. The pickup was also unsatisfactory. The vehicle provided was not an official Taj car and did not meet my expectations. The driver made a long stop, leaving us waiting in the car with our baby. It was an uncomfortable beginning to our stay. Handling of payment caused more frustration. At check-in, I was asked to pay again even though the stay was prepaid. The staff later confirmed this duplicate payment would be refunded. There were also two room-related refunds: one for an upgrade I declined later, and another for the difference in room category for a separate booking on September 4–5. Reception assured us we could stay in our current room and the difference would be returned. At checkout, I paid the total final charges separately. I gave my bank details as requested and was assured the refund and room-related reimbursements would be processed. Despite several follow-up calls, I have not received a clear response or refund date. I am also incurring interest charges due to the duplicate payment and delay. Guests should not have to repeatedly chase money the hotel agreed to return. Some staff made a positive impact. Rohan Rahul was very helpful, and Ruthi from the restaurant was friendly and supportive. I appreciate their efforts and want to acknowledge them. However, these positive moments could not compensate for the illness, disruption, and unresolved financial issues. For a hotel with the Taj name, I expected much better attention to food safety, billing accuracy, and complaint handling. How a hotel responds when problems arise is as important as the stay itself, and this experience fell short in that regard.

This resort is perfect for those seeking serenity, fresh air, and upscale comfort away from busy tourist spots.

I visited the property for a business trip. It is truly a beautiful place. I had a meeting with Mr. Saurav Sharma from the purchase department, who also promised to show me around the hotel. Exceptional hospitality. Very calm and serene location. Buffet dinner and breakfast was tasty and had loads of variety.
