Bhimtal - a picturesque lake and town perched at an altitude of 1370 metres above sea level is a splendid, tranquil spot with a promise of brimming up a new shade of lights and perspective every time one looks at the crayon like outlines of the mountains. It is not very far from Nainital, approximately 22 kilometres from here but it surprisingly covers a larger surface area that the quaint hill station.

Surrounded by a lake which goes by the same name and a mountain in very close proximity, named Bhimeshwara Mahadev Temple, Bhimtal is the peaceful abode to head to for just some quiet and meditation, although one may indulge in some watersports once here, based on will, wish, convenience or availability sometimes. The space is mostly a serene spiritual hub and gives one a vibe of depth and an intense atmosphere wherein one would like to sit down and simply soak in the peace and quiet of Bhimtal.

The temperature in December however varies from 4 - 18 degrees during the winters and is laden with mist and fog which make Bhimtal’s landscape laden with a very woolly exterior. If you are game for the cold here, and freezing temperatures do not scare you then December is the time for you to visit Bhimtal, the only prime requirement is that you have to be a fan of the famed North Indian Winters. Beware and informed that it is quite likely that the temperatures can dip below 4 degrees at any given point in time and that you should be prepared for the rough chilly winds that blow in your direction if this were to be the case.

The other thing to do is to take necessary precautions - definitely carry thick woollens. Be rest assured you will not be wearing a single sweater, and that layers of wool and cashmere will mask your entire appearance. Besides, carry a thermos flask to carry warm water or tea in constantly. It would also do you a world of good to carry some cold, cough, sneeze and runny nose relieving tablets/pills/syrups/ointments. A first aid kit with some bandages or bandaids - for any accidental hurt/pain is necessary, as you will feel the bite of the hurt a lot more in the cold.
