Answer: Snuggled in a beautiful valley, this culturally rich town is never too far away from a traveller's dream. Make this dream come true, for reaching Jammu is never a difficult task. Plan your itinerary according to the different travel options, depending on how much time you have and how much you're willing to shell out. Here's a peek into the various options you can choose from:

  • By Air
Feeling a little indulgent towards travel expenses and want to start your holiday right away? This trip to Jammu then is definitely not going to disappoint you. The nearest airport is at Jammu itself, just about 8 km from the main city centre. The airport sees regular flights from Delhi, with carriers such as Kingfisher Airlines, Indian Airlines and Jet Airways. There are also shorter flights that operate between Jammu, Leh and Srinagar, for those of you who want to go destination-hopping.
International travellers can also breathe a sigh of relief as the nearest international airport to Jammu is at Delhi, which as mentioned above, one can take Delhi to Jammu flights for easy reach. From the Jammu airport, you can opt for shared or individual cabs which will take you to the heart of the city in no time.

  • By Rail
Let the rhythmic motions and the sweet sound of toot-toot put you to sleep while you dream of a beautiful vacation at Jammu. The nearest railway station, Jammu Tawi, is at Jammu itself (surprise!). It is a major railway station in northern India and is thus connected to most important towns and cities of the country. The station sees frequent trains from Delhi, Chennai, Pune, Amritsar and even the southernmost Trivandrum station and you can opt for taxis from the station to reach the city centre. Trains tend to be the cheaper alternative to flights, though they may take several more hours to take you to Jammu. But who's complaining when a happy holiday awaits?

Jammu is well-connected to most cities through National Highway 1A, which is a broad, all weather road. Jammu is at a convenient distance from most major cities of north India, including Delhi (586 km), Amritsar (243 km), Chandigarh (436 km), Manali (428 km), etc, from where you can either choose to drive or take buses to Jammu.J&K Tourism operates buses between these cities, other than the state transport corporations of the cities themselves. A whole variety of buses are available to and from these cities, including air-conditioned, deluxe, luxury and volvo coaches. Most of these terminate at the General Bus Stand in the main city of Jammu. Apart from government-run buses, you could even opt for private tour operators, but make sure to check their licenses in advance to ensure your safety.
