What can be a suitable itinerary for Chandigarh?

1 person found this answer useful Useful ?Yes

To make the most of your time in Chandigarh, it would be best to arrange your time and activities in a way that makes the best of the days you have to spend in this delightful, incredible city. Almost all the major cities of India will have flights to Chandigarh, direct or indirect, making it one of the easy to approach cities. Given below is a suggested itinerary that you can use as a guide while planning out your own:

Day 1

  • After checking in and having a hearty breakfast, head over to Rock Garden. A fantasy land created out of industrial waste, rocks, concrete, Rock Garden is an artistic splendour. Exploring Rock Garden’s maze-like open air galleries will take all of the morning. Next plan on stopping at Capitol Complex, the site for much of the city’s neural networks; the High Court, Secretariat and Legislative assembly as well as the its emblem, the Open Hand Monument. An architectural splendour, prepare to be amazed as you walk its length and examine its nook and crannies. Being the hub of government activity, you will need to take permission to enter certain areas. Ask at the gate with respect to areas where movement may be restricted.

  • Head over to Sector 17 C, which is lined with eating joints, for lunch and a spot of heavy duty shopping. It will take you the better part of the afternoon. Next visit Sukhna Lake where you can have a leisurely evening boat ride. Follow it up with tea/coffee/juices and snacks at the 5-6 eating joints that line its main entrance points, right where the joy rides for children are. Take a leisurely walk around the lake’s perimeter and when you tire down, sit down on any one of its steps and simply soak in the serenity as you watch the sun set. Head over to Barbeque’s Nation or Punjab Grill for a dinner.

Day 2

  • After breakfast begin the day with a visit to Mansa Devi Temple. A beautiful, large temple complex, it gives you the comfort of faith and the serenity of pristine surroundings, all in one visit. Next plan to stop atSector 22 market where you can buy your choice of North Indian ethnic wear, particularly Punjabi, whose designs tend towards natural textiles and easy, elegant lines as well as heavily embroidered, bedazzling party wear. The neighbourhood is full of footwear stores, lower-priced clothing shops and kiosks. For lunch, stop at any one of the small food outlets that punctuate the shops in Sector 22 market for a plateful of Punjabi cuisine.

  • Next make a stop at the Government Museum and Alliance Francaise for a glimpse into Chandigarh and Punjab’s history as well as the contemporary art scene. Finally, explore the prickly surroundings of Cactus Garden, that has a dazzling collection of over 2,500 species of cactus. For dinner visit Copper Chimney or Sher-e-Punjab.

Day 3

  • Have an early breakfast and get prepared for exploring the beautiful surroundings of Chandigarh. Head over to Kasauli, 60 km away, where you can indulge in trekking, hiking or simply exploring and soaking in its beautiful and incredible scenery. You can easilu get a Chandigarh to Kasauli cab from Chandigarh, which will take less than 3 hours to take you to Kasauli. Although Timber Trail and Pinjore will fall on your way to Kasauli, keep them for later on your way back. You can have lunch at Kasauli’s HPTDC’s Ros Common. On your drive back, make a stop at Timber Trail and ride the cable car to the other side of the hill, where a beautiful, manicured garden and incredible views greet you. You can have your evening tea and snacks at Timber Trail’s Mezza 9 or Terazzo. The last stop on your way back to Chandigarh is Pinjore, whose beauty and splendour is best enjoyed in the twilight and dark. The massive palace is lit up golden and midnight blue and is the ideal time to experience its true magnificence.

Get set for an incredible travel experience to India’s best planned city, even as you venture forth and off its well paved streets to absorb the land and cultures that surround it and make it quintessentially Chandigarh.
