Iti - firstly that's an amazing destination to choose as an offbeat weekend getaway from Mumbai.  The landscape is mesmerizing !

There are a few different ways of reaching Raigad Fort (village Pachad) from Mumbai (a distance of ~200 Km), but these two are the prominent ones if you don't want to drive down or rent a private taxi.

1. The best way to reach Raigad Fort from Mumbai is by bus, since the scenic beauty along the route (Mumbai Goa Highway - NH17) as well as the fact that the journey is just around 5 hours long, makes it worthwhile. It will cost you Rs.350 for normal seater buses or Rs. 500 volvo/reclining seat/sleeper buses. You can check out our Mumbai to Mahad by Bus page and once there you can just input your dates at the top to search for a bus and book it. If you want a nice experience of trekking at Raigad, then it’s better to travel across the night and reach up to Raigad Fort by morning. Direct State Transport Buses from Mumbai To Raigad Fort is running daily at night 12.15 A.M from Parel (Mumbai) ST Depot to Raigad Fort (Pachad Village) and reach by 06.15 A.M. The Bus route is Parel > Kurla > Panvel > Pen > Nagothane Fata > Indapur > Mangaon > Mahad > Pachad. Also, buses to Mahad leave from Mumbai Central throughout the day.

You can see the MSRTC timetables online at http://www.msrtconline.in/timetable.aspx
(nearest ST Depot is Mahad Depot)

There are shared cabs / private taxis available from Mahad bus depot to Raigadh.

2. Alternately you can get there by train. Veer and Mangaon are the nearest stations to Raigad fort on the Konkan railway line (~40 Km and ~55 Km respectively from the fort). More trains stop at Mangaon, since it's the bigger station. You can see our Mumbai to Mangaon by train page and do a search by date. Fares start at Rs. 130 for sleeper class.

There are shared cabs / private taxis available from the railway station to Raigadh.

Some tips for you:

  1. Hotel Open Umbrella in Mangaon is good for a South Indian breakfast or Konkani lunch. See this wikimapia link for location.
  2. There are around 1500 steps leading to the fort. So come with the sufficient amount of water with you.

  3. If you are traveling with kids or aged people, it is better to take the Ropeway up the hill.

Check out this awesome video to see what awaits you at Raigad :
