about chor bazaar

Thieves’ market or Chor Bazaar in Delhi is a market that sells stolen goods - that’s the first thing you should know about this place. These stolen stuff are sold and bought with a nonchalant air on the part of the seller and buyer. You’ll find everything from designer clothes to antiques, to jewelry, hardware, pirated software, electronics and even stolen car parts, sold at astounding prices. This is one of those amazing places in Delhi that is definitely worth a visit but is not everyone’s cup of tea.

For one, this is the king of all unorganized markets in the city. Everything in this market is either damaged, second hand, stolen or surplus, for which one must have the eye to differentiate. Astounding because, only here can you find a pair of designer embroidered jeans for just 50 bucks, or a set of antique candle stands at 150, or T-shirts at 30 bucks, you get the drift?

You will find some Good Restaurants in this place to eat of your choice, however it is preferred to avoid the street food. Even at 7 in the morning, you will come across hawkers offering chicken biryani, pineapple salad, fresh juices and bread pakoras.

The downside is everything is strewn in a heap, so you have to have a good eye to snatch up the treasure before others get to it. Also, Chor Bazaar is quite crowded with a lot of shoving and pushing (beware of the pickpockets) and the place smells like raw meat or some other unpleasant smell. Like we said, not a place for everyone but only the hardcore thrift store junkies. They are sure to have the time of their lives. Each week is like a new junk haul. A seller who might have sold you a pair of Ray ban goggles, might be selling DVDs the next week. The best time to shop here is really early in the morning (6 AM-7AM) but if you’re not an early bird, try your luck around (3PM-4PM)
