April is considered the threshold between spring and summer, the time when the flowers are blooming,greenery is at its peak and the warmth of the sun is starting to intensify. It’s the perfect time to plan a fun filled holiday while keeping on your agenda the famous events and festivals in April.

Tulip Festival, Srinagar

The Tulip Festival being held in Srinagar is South Asia's largest Tulip festival. The festival takes place every year during the first two weeks of April at the Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip garden. An absolute feast for your eyes, the picturesque views spread across the entire area of the park, which is a little over 5 hectares of land at the foothills of Zabarvan near the Dal Lake. The festival was started in 2007 with the aim of promoting Kashmir Tourism. Today swarms of tourists are seen flocking to the festival from India and abroad to experience the beauty of over 60 varieties of multi coloured tulips. The beauty is indeed mesmerising.

New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, USA

The New Orleans Jazz and Music Festival is conducted annually to celebrate the culture and music of New Orleans and Louisiana. It is a 10 day long cultural fest featuring thousands of musicians, craftsmen and cooks who display some of their best work. The list of visitors exceeds 4 lakhs every year. The Louisiana Heritage Fair is also held at the Fair Grounds Race Course over the course of the festival. So if you're a music buff and planning a trip to USA around April, a trip to the New Orleans Jazz Music Festival must be on the cards.

Baisakhi in Punjab

Baisakhi is among the most illustrious harvest festivals celebrated in the state of Punjab. It is considered as the Punjabi new year and is celebrated in commemoration of the founding of the Khalsa. The entire state gleams with joy, organising fairs in all the cities. Each fair features bhangra and gidda dances, folk music and the scrumptious food of punjab. The major festivities take place in Amritsar around the Golden Temple where the atmosphere seems almost carnival like. The sikhs of the town also carry out a street procession which is worth experiencing.

King’s Day, Amsterdam

King’s Day which was formerly known as Queen’s Day is celebrated in the city of Amsterdam every year with much vigour. Thousands of people both local and from around the world are seen enjoying the open air fun that the city has to offer as part of the celebration. The entire city is decorated in a sheet of orange, as the city embraces the largest street party of the year. The Songkran festival is celebrated in Thailand every year from the 13th to the 15th of April to welcome the New Year. The date of the festival was originally set by astrological calculation, but is now fixed. Be a part of the grand water fight which is so much fun that you’ll want to come back the subsequent year as well. Don’t forget to wear comfortable clothes, leave your valuables in your room and protect your camera from the water. You should also buy a good water gun for yourself to enjoy the festivities to the fullest.
