about govind dev ji temple

Located in Jaipur, Govind Devji Temple has an interesting story associated with it. Rescued by Maharaja Jai Singh II to prevent it from destruction at the hands of Aurangzeb, the Govind Ji idol was earlier established in Vrindavan from where it was brought to Jaipur in the 18th century. Legend has it that this idol was built by the great grandson of Shri Krishna, based on the descriptions of his grandmother. It is also said that Lord Krishna's idol in the temple looks exactly like Krishna's form while his incarnation of Earth.

Govind Dev ji is one of the presiding deities of the Braja Mandala (Greater Vrindavan). It is believed that Maharaja Jai Singh created the 'City of Victory', Jaipur as a dedication to Govind Devji. On the altar, one can see other full sized deities of Govindji, along with the one magnificent one in black marble at Govind Devji Temple. The whole place reverberates with a pious energy, sending vibes of peace to the soul.

The maha prasad booth is located near the deities. It is customary for every visitor to purchase a little prasad and distribute it amongst other devotees. There is a Mangala Arti everyday which is a prime attraction of Govind Devji Temple and is attended by close to 5000 people daily. A mantra is vigorously chanted before the Lord, which translates as, "We hunger for the sight of your face, and we wish to fix you constantly in our thoughts while meditating on your lotus face. This life is full of responsibilities and now we are in the middle of the ocean; please give us your blessing so that we can relieve ourselves of life’s burdens and understand the meaning of living."
