about hazara rama temple

Located within the royal enclosure of Hampi scattered with remnants and relics of the Vijaynagara empire is the Hazara Rama Temple. Situated right in the middle of the royal complex where all paths leading from various locations within the complex converge, Hazara Rama temple is considered to be the private temple of the Vijayanagra kings and royalties.

Those familiar with the epic saga of Ramayana would find the temple a narrative rendition of Ramayana, carved into the stone walls of the temple. Engraved into the temple's walls are characters, acts, events and scenes from Ramayana. As you walk around the temple exploring, the entire tale seems to come alive and the temple appears to be conducting a symphony of the narrative allegory chiseled into it.

For those well acquainted with Hindi language the temple's name must have begun to make poetical sense; Hazara Rama literally translates to Thousand Rama, referring to the stone carvings and bas-reliefs.
