The thought of how Easter is celebrated tends to pop into our head an image of a beautifully decorated easter egg, made of chocolate and all ready to be gulped down. However, the significance of Easter spreads so much more far and wide than the Easter bunny or eggs. Easter is quintessentially a Christian festival celebrated in order to commemorate the resurrection of Jesus Christ, three days after his crucification. In Western Christianity, Easter is always celebrated on the Sunday immediately following the Paschal Full Moon.

Although the dates vary from year to year, Easter generally falls in late April. This year Easter will be celebrated on the 20th of April 2014. The word "Easter" is named after Eastre, the Anglo-Saxon goddess of spring. Different people celebrate Easter in different ways depending on their own religious and cultural beliefs.

The story of the coming of the Easter eggs and bunny is also an interesting one. It was believed in early times that since rabbits or hares have frequent and multiple births they are the perfect symbols of ‘fertility’. The Greeks on the other hand believed that an ‘egg’ is the epitome or seed of birth. Both these concepts were linked to the resurrection or rebirth of Jesus making them the symbols of Easter today.
