How is the nightlife in Alchi?

It’s great! That is, if you like the quiet and seclusion that a remote mountainous village has to offer. We are assuming that you do, otherwise why would you choose Alchi in the first place? For those who have not begun their research or have just stumbled upon this Ladakhi village and are curious about it, Alchi is far removed from the glitz of Leh.

About 70 kilometres away from
Leh, Alchi is located in one remote corner of Ladakh, on the banks of the Indus river. With a handful of shops and restaurants, which close around 10 at night, this place is miles away from the typical exuberance of a city or town, both literally and figuratively. And this is the USP of this destination, which makes it a lovely spot to get a good healing dose of rest and relaxation and loads of breathing space away from the congestion and stress of the fast-paced life. We suggest you carry a good paperback or your music player along this trip, especially if you are travelling alone.

If you can’t imagine going to bed at 10, you can always wander around the village streets and the local huts and houses which seem to develop an ethereal quality when bathed in moonlight (if there happens to be a good lunar portion in the sky). Notice that we didn’t mention streetlights, because for one, ‘bathed in streetlight’ doesn’t sound as romantic and second, they are not a very dependable source of light here, to be honest. You will end up scrambling in pitch black darkness if you put your faith in the power supply of this area. A good, high power torch will be a faithful companion. The streets are usually deserted at this time and you can have the views, the cool clean breezes and the whole ambience, all to yourself.

Take time to sit under a tree or a street-side bench, plug in your earphones and enjoy the simple pleasure of watching the star studded heavens above - a rare sight that you will never experience amongst the harsh glare of the city lights. And if you catch a glimpse of a falling star, go ahead and make a wish.
