ABOUT Kaziranga National Park
Sheltering a major portion of world's population of Rhinos, Kaziranga National Park Assam is one among the five natural UNESCO world heritage sites in India. It is home to the Great Indian One Horned Rhinos and many other exotic species that makes this National Park one of the most sought after destinations for the wildlife buffs.

Kaziranga National Park is famed for the conservation of numerous exotic species including the Pride of the state, the one horned rhino. There are also other rarely found animals seen in this National Park such as the Hoolock Gibbons, Swamp deer, Leopard Cats, Civet Cats, Tigers etc.

The broad terrain of the jungle is covered in plush flora that includes tall elephant grass, marshland and dense tropical moist broadleaf forests. Kaziranga National Park is also an 'important bird area' as recognized by Birdlife International for providing sanctuary to varied species of exotic birds such as horn bills, grey headed fish eagle, pelicans, blyth’s Kingfisher and many more. Here one may opt for an Elephant safari or a jeep safari to explore the wilderness. However the Elephant safari is very popular and so it should be booked earlier.

The best time to visit Kaziranga National Park is mid-November to early April.
The nearest airports are at Guwahati (217 km) and Jorhat (97 km). The nearest railhead is at Furkating (75 km). If you want to drive down, take the NH 37 to Kohora. ASTC and private buses stop enroute to Guwahati, Tezpur and Upper Assam. Some 224 kilometers away from Guwahati city. You can reach the Kaziranga National Park in a maximum of 4 hours by a roadway drive.

March is actually a great time to go there as it is neither hot nor cold. You should take both a Jeep safari and an elephant safari and make sure you go and visit two different parts in those two safaris (central range and Bagori range)
