about kichu lakhang

Kichu Lakhang is an important Himalayan Buddhist Temple which is situated in Lango Gewog of Paro district in Bhutan. One of the oldest temples in Bhutan, it was built in the 7 century by Tibetan Emperor Songtsan Gampo to pin down 'the left foot of the supine Ogress', which was thwarting the establishment of Buddhism in the Himalayas. Kyichu is said to be one of the main 12 temples of the 108 temples that were built overnight across Tibet and borderlands. The temple was then visited by Padmasambhava, the flying tiger in the 8 century when he concealed many spiritual treasures here. There are two orange trees in the courtyard of the temple which are believed to bear fruits all throughout the year. The golden roof and the additional buildings were built later by the governor of Paro. The temple was adopted by different sects and many important Buddhists teachers spent time here.
