about kutch museum

Established in 1877 by Maharao Khengarji, Kutch Museum in Bhuj is the oldest museum of Gujarat. It was earlier known as Fergusson Museum. The museum has the largest collection of Kshatrapa inscriptions which dates back to 1st century AD. You will get to see the extinct Kutchi script and a unique collection of coins( which includes Kutch’s local currency-Kori). Tribal culture is an important part of Kutch’s cultural identity, with one section of the museum completely devoted to them. It stores ancient artifacts, folk arts and crafts and information about tribal people.
