about mahalaxmi temple

Dedicated to the goddess of wealth, Mahalaxmi, this temple was built in 1831 by Dhakji Dadaji, a Hindu merchant.

The images of the goddesses, Mahalakshmi, Mahasaraswati and Mahakali are adorned with nose rings and bangles which are considered to be signs of a woman being married. This might explain the large number of married women who come here for blessings. Located on a headland, this temple is just amazing during Mumbai's Navratri. Mahalaxmi Temple is the focus of this Festival of Nine Nights in the month of September/October. After your visit, you can also step down towards the shore to enjoy some of the most tasty food items on your way.

There are also stalls inside the Mahalaxmi Temple complex that sell flower garlands and other paraphernalia used by devotees. Don't forget to listen to some interesting tales about the temple from the sadhus sitting near the temple.
