These are simply the best off season places to visit in India during May! There’s a reason why everyone choses to go to the hill stations in the summer and more beachy places in the winter, and the answer is very simple - it's logic! We all want to to go to a place right in the middle of the peak season because isn’t that when we’re meant to go? Well think again. If you're frustrated with all the rush you face during peak season, it's surely time that you become an off season traveller. There are plenty of destinations out there that are as spectacular in the off seasons as well. So check out this list of off season places to visit in India during May.

Leh, J&K

I know you’ve all been told that the town of Leh should only be visited in the summers and you just won't be able to handle the cold at any other time. But contrary to this belief Leh is actually quite lovely in the month of May. The temperature is just right, typically ranging between 25 and -5 degrees centigrade, with snowfall at times making the atmosphere ever so picturesque. You can go for a short trek or simply enjoy the beautiful view all around. Take a trip to the Leh Palace and Thiksey Monastery or look for some peace at the Shanti Stupa, the sightseeing options are countless.

Finding a place to stay at this time of the year won’t be tough at any budget, so make sure you get a room with a heater and cozy blanket as the nights can get pretty cold, also don’t forget to pack lots of warm clothes.

Goa

Goa Tourism
is relatively slow around this time but there is lots to do at least in the month of May as well. Most of the beach shacks will be there and you’ll have lots of nightlife to enjoy. The days will definitely be a little humid but there’s always a mild cool breeze at the beach. Less crowd will also mean that you can enjoy all the watersports and activities with ease without any rush to think about. Shop at the Anjuna market without having to worry about the crowd and chill on the beach and have your own little private party. Take a Mumbai to Goa luxury bus or taxi ride if you are nearby or fly directly to Dabolim Airport by booking a seat in New Delhi to Goa flights. An off season Goa trip is pretty economical and much more fun!

Here too owing to the off season you will find a room of your choice very easily. So make sure there’s good air conditioning and you’re carrying your coolest beach wear. There is no way that the heat will get in the way of a fun filled holiday.

Corbett, Uttarakhand

The Jim Corbett National Park located in the Ramnagar region of Uttarakhand is closed for tourists from 15th June to 15th November every year for the monsoons. The time around May is one when the tourist traffic reduces considerably owing to the approaching closing date. A perfect time to soak in the magic of the wilderness, you are sure to get a booking around this time. Enjoy the thrilling ride on the Jeep Safari while you try spotting the rare tigers of the forest. Alternatively you could hop onto an Elephant and experience the joys of the Elephant Safari.

Jaipur, Rajasthan

The weather is pleasant, at least in the evenings with most the famous markets such as the Bapu Bazar and Johri Bazar remaining open till late. Sightseeing too is better in the second half with tourist attractions such as Chokhi Dhani and Ambar Vatika opening late for a scrumptious authentic Rajasthani dinner. You can also pay a visit to the ever so famous Birla Mandir and grab a bite from the long line of Pandit Pao Bhaji hawkers waiting for you outside. The union territory of Pondicherry is believed to be a destination worthy of being visited the year around. Having said so there are a few months around the March - June period when the number of visitors are relatively less as they dread the hot weather. But isn't Pondicherry the place we go for a peaceful and relaxing getaway? This is what makes the month of May the ideal time to plan a trip to Pondicherry. And if you want to beat the heat you can go and enjoy the wide variety of watersports without any worry of having to wait in line for your turn or take a walk down the Long Pier and enjoy the slightly cool breeze. Don’t forget to plan trips to Sri Aurobindo Ashram and Auroville.

Here too it would be a good idea to get a room with air-conditioning, or at least one with lots of windows and a fan to ensure you sleep in peace.

Guwahati, Assam

Guwahati is though a place that can surely be visited at any time of the year, sees less swarms of people pouring in during the month of May. This is what makes it a perfect time to plan a trip. It will though be hot but not enough to cause a hindrance in your holiday. Enjoy the Brahmaputra river cruise while the mild breeze from the river brushes against your face, or go on a Vagabond Expedition and put your mountain biking skills to the test. Guwahati Tourism has so much to offer, no matter what time of the year it is.

You will definitely need a room with air-conditioning as the nights could be a tad bit warm, but at this time of the year you are sure to find something good in your budget.

Imphal, Manipur

The peak season to visit the capital city of Imphal is from the month of October to March, as the weather is either cold or pleasant. People avoid visiting in any other month as they do not want to face the heat. However a lesser known fact is that the month of May too is one when the weather stays quite pleasant. And with such little rush you are bound to have the time of your life. The sights all around will be a feast for our eyes. Visit the breath taking Dzuko Valley or take a trip to see the mesmerising orchids at Khonghampat Orchidarium, you will never run out of sightseeing options.
