about poovar island

A beautiful place where lake, river and sea come together, Poovar Island is a sleepy fishing village. Glistening beaches, coconut trees gingerly dipping into the seas, an escape to the rustic Kerala and an encounter with one of Kerala's obscure martial arts spell your visit to Poovar Island, a place from where you will return with beautiful memories. The beach of Poovar Island is quite clean, but devoid of any water sporting options or leisure offerings. If you happen to arrive here early morning, you will surely find the place buzzing with a lot of activity as fishermen return from their morning shift. Take a walk from the beach into the village and you will find yourself in a welcoming village, where you can get a hand's on experience of Kerala's rural culture. Dig deeper and you might just bump into someone practicing the quaint martial art of the region! This one is absolutely worth a watch and a great place to get some amazing pictures. If you love the waters, enjoy a slow canoe ride through the meandering lagoons and backwaters while feasting your eyes on the beauty around and marvelling at nature's creations. If you like the place a lot, you can also stay in one of the multiple resorts on the island and also indulge in some ayurvedic therapies while at it maybe? For those who are not staying on the island, the only means to do so is access it by boat! You can opt for a 1 hour ride where you will be traversing the lake, river and sea near this natural wonder which has been ranked amongst India’s top 50 attractions by National Geographic.

Except that I almost drowned because I went too far into the water despite warnings, I loved everything about this island. The river meets the sea, the sea flows into the backwaters, the backwaters try to push the sea back. It is a real treat. We wen ...... read more
