about retiro park

Retiro Park is popularly known as the Parque del Buen Retiro or El Retiro in Madrid. It is spread across an area of 350-acre land and is home to a number of gardens, fountains and buildings. Initially a monastery was built here in 1500 CE, which was later expanded into a royal park when Phillip II moved his court to Madrid. Since 1868 it’s been part of the public domain. The park has a large artificial pond where people can rent kayaks and canoes, and spend some fun time. The Paseo de la Argentina, known as the Statue Walk, is ornamented with statues from the Royal Palace and is a major attraction. It is a favorite spot for tourists and locals alike and definitely deserves a visit.
