about sati anusuya temple

This temple is dedicated to Sati Anusuya, who was eulogised for her virtue and utmost loyalty and devotion to her husband, Rishi Atri. As stated in the Ramayana, when Narada muni sang praises of her purity and unparalleled devotion to her husband, the respective wifes of Shiva, Vishnu and Brahma, viz. Goddess Durga, Laxmi and Saraswati became jealous and sent their husbands to test Anusuya. The trinity took the form of three brahmins and asked for Sati Anusuiya for food on the condition that she serve them unclothed. Agreeing to comply to their wishes, Anusuya used her powers to turn the trinity into three babies and fed them. The three Goddesses came to Anusuya to apologise and request her to turn their husbands back. After the trinity came back to their own form they blessed her with three sons - viz, Chadra from Brahma, Dattatreya from Vishnu and Durvasa from Shiva. Since then Sati Anusuya is worshipped as the symbol of virtue and devotion. The temple is located in an ashram where Sati Anusuya was believed to have resided with her husband and sons. This place also marks the beginning of the legendary Dandaka forests. The lush greenery, chirping of birds and small rivulets arising from the surrounding mountain create a very picturesque vista that attracts scores of tourists to this place.
