about shantadurga temple

A large temple complex, Shri Shantadurga Temple is situated at the foothill of Kavalem village in Ponda Taluka, Goa. It was initially a small laterite mud shrine which was later converted into a beautiful temple. The temple is dedicated to Shantadurga, the goddess who mediates between Vishnu and Shiva. The goddess is shown holding two serpents, one in each hand, representing Vishnu and Shiva. The temple is surrounded by lush greenery, on the slope of the foothills of a mountain chain. There are the main temple and three smaller temples of other deities built on other three sides of the temple.
