This season if you are planning for a vacation at one of the most beautiful places in India, Srinagar, let me tell you that you are in for the best holiday you have ever had. Each and every moment in this city is what you will cherish forever in your life. So, to make it a brilliant holiday for you, we give you a five day long itinerary in which you can make the best use of your time and cover the maximum tourist places in Srinagar and around the city.

[N.B- To experience the unique flavours of the Srinagar city it is highly recommended to stay in a houseboat rather than a hotel. Some famous houseboat options are are Chicago Houseboats, Peacock houseboats and Butts Clermont houseboats etc. It will surely be an unforgettable experience for you.]

Day 1

It is best to start your sightseeing day early in Srinagar. The first thing on your agenda should be the alluring Mughal Gardens; enchanting during the spring time, these gardens are the pride and joy of the city. Built by the Mughal kings centuries ago, these gardens are well maintained by the tourism department of the state and offers a memorable experience to its visitors.

The Mughal gardens include Cheshm-E-Shahi, Shalimar Bagh and the Nishat Bagh. All of these gardens are located in the boulevard road in Srinagar. Start with Nishat Bagh going ahead with Shalimar Bagh and then Cheshm-e-Shahi. If you happen to be here in the month of April you can visit the Indira Gandhi memorial Tulip Garden, that remains open only for a few days during this time, before going to Cheshm-e-Shahi.

Located close to the Cheshm-e-Shahi garden is the famous Pari Mahal you can spend few beautiful moments here after the ‘Srinagar garden visiting spree’.

While you are in the middle of your garden hopping session, don't forget to grab some lunch. Neither Kashmiri food nor the hospitality of Kashmiri people need any hype. So, get ready to have some delicious delicacies of the city. Now, you have three options for a delicious meal here. Option 1: J&K tourism restaurants inside the Mughal gardens that offer wholesome and delicious meals at reasonable rates. Option 2: Famous Krishna Dhaba at Sonwar, offering lip smacking food at pocket friendly rates. Option 3: For the ones who wants to have a lavish meal, you have Lhasa and Shamyan restaurant located at the boulevard road where you can have a scrumptious meal.

By evening you can go on a shopping spree in the markets of Srinagar. Lal Chowk and the Polo View market are great shopping stops for tourists here. Pick up some souvenirs for back home that will remind you of this wonderful day spent in Srinagar. However, make sure to reach the markets some time before 7.30 PM because after that the shops begin to close their shutters.

Day 2

On the third day come back to Srinagar and spend a relaxed and laid back morning.

In the afternoon you can head for the famous religious attractions in the city that will include the Shankaracharya temple. Located in the shankaracharya hill, it is one of the most famous and beautiful temple.

You can head for Jama Masjid after that and spend some quality time in the pious and peaceful environment here. If you are intrigued by Ashwin Sanghi’s novel Rozabal Line, you can visit the shrine and see for yourself the dargah of Ziarati Hazrati Youza Asouph, better known as Rozabal shrine.

In the afternoon you can take a pleasant shikara ride, which is one of the most unique experiences in the city. To book for a shikara ride you can go to the challi point next to Dal Lake. The shikaras will take you on a joyride in the Dal lake and give you experience that you will never forget in your entire lifetime.

By late evening you can enjoy a scrumptious meal of Kashmiri Wazwan at any of the famous restaurants in town offering Kashmiri delicacies. Highly recommended are Shamyana restaurant at boulevard road and Ahdoos restaurant at Residency road.

Day 3

On the second day, early in the morning at around 7 AM, leave for Gulmarg. It will take you a maximum of 1.5 hours to reach this beautiful hill station where you can enjoy a number of activities apart from sightseeing. Gulmarg is an enchantingly beautiful place with snow covered slopes and splendid landscapes.

You can enjoy many different adventurous activities here. Gulmarg is the world’s seventh ranking skiing resort and has the second highest cable car in the globe -the Gulmarg gondola rides-. The number of things that you can do and see here may fall short short in a day. So make the full use of the one day that you will have here.

Spend the night at a nice cozy cottage in Gulmarg and relax your bones fro the next day.

Day 4

The fourth day is when you head for Pahalgam, the pristine land of rugged landscapes and rippling river streams. From Gulmarg it will take you some 3 to 4 hours to cover this distance of 146 kilometers to Pahalgam. As for the accommodation, there are a number of good hotels in Pahalgam which will take care of all your accommodation worries.

If you leave at around 9 AM in the morning you will reach by 12 or 1 PM. Once you reach Pehelgam you can find yourself a nice cozy accommodation for the night and rest there there for a while.

In the afternoon you can explore a little bit of this splendorous hill town. You can go for a visit to the Pahalgam old market where you can buy beautiful souvenirs and other local items. After that you go to the parks along the liddar, or sit near the banks of the Liddar River, its a beautiful glacial river. Pahalgam club is another option where you can go on the first day here.

Day 5

Waking up on the 5th day in Pahalgam you can go check out the beautiful Betaab valley. You can pack a small picnic and have it here amidst the alluring natural beauty of the valley.

By afternoon you can head back to Srinagar and spend some more quality time in the city, thus ending a refreshing and much enjoyable holiday in these beautiful places.
