about thriprayar sri rama temple

Just off the highway to Guruvayur is the  Thriprayar Sri Rama Temple , overlooking a river. The idol is one of four of Rama and his three brothers, said to have been found on the seashore by a local chieftain who had been guided to them by a dream. The deity is said to incorporate elements of Brahma and Shiva and is therefore worshipped as the Trimoorti. The Thriprayar Rama is the leading deity in the Arattupuzha Pooram.

The srikovil is large and circular and painted with old murals. Devotees salute the presence of Hanuman in the mandapam opposite the sanctum, although there is no physical image there. Koothu or drama is often presented as an offering and, from the first of the Malayalam month of Vrischikam (mid- Nov), by the temple itself. The main theme is the incident of Hanuman taking a ring from Sita to give to Rama. Another unique offering is the firing of explosives to commemorate the signal given to Rama that Sita had been found.
