about durg

Durg is a famous city in the state of Chhattisgarh. This city owns a big agricultural market and is engaged in the milling of pigeon peas and rice. Shooting up as an important industrial hub after the establishment of the Bhilai Steel Plant as well, Durg stands as one of the largest cities of the state today. Other important industries that are growing in this city are oil pressing, mining, weaving and brass working. Also, it is the headquarters of Durg District, which is the third largest district of the state.

A city fascinatingly involved in industrial activities and a major religious centre at the same time, Durg is an ancient city which finds mention in the Mahabharata and Chinese manuscripts as well. With its scattering of temples, the city invites a number of tourists to its warm embrace, especially during festivals like Navratra. Today, the place is also a hikers' and bird watchers' favourite.

It is located at an elevation of approximately 317 metres above the sea level and spread across an area of 2,238 sq. kilometres. Durg encompasses hills which are rich in mineral resources and lush greenery. It's also an important pilgrimage centre as it houses the famous Deorbhijia Temple. Durg witnesses a Dry Tropical weather in which the summers are hot and winters are not very cold. May and June are the hottest months of the year when the temperature reaches up to 45 degree celsius.
