What are the different ways to travel to Agra?

Agra, located on the banks of river Yamuna is a famous tourist destination in the state of Uttar Pradesh. Well connected through highways, Indian railways and a fully functional airport, reaching the city is considerably easy.

  • Air

The Kheria airport in Agra is connected by domestic flights to most major cities in the country. About 7 kms from the city center and 3 kms from the Idgah bus stand, the airport has various pre paid taxis, buses and autos plying to different parts of the city.

  • Train

You could also board a train to the majestic city. Connected by rail to Varansi, Delhi and Rajasthan, there are regular trains plying to Agra. To add to the charm, hop on to the luxurious train ‘Palace on Wheels’ to experience the royal aura of the place. The main railway station in the city is the Agra Cantonment station, a short ride from the famous Taj Mahal and Agra Fort. From rickshaws, autos to taxis, you can choose your chariot.

  • Road

If road journeys are what excites, there are a multitude of buses connecting Agra to Delhi. One could take any of the buses provided by state transport and other private companies. The interstate bus stands in Agra are, Idgah Bus Stand, the most important bus stand for travelling from Agra to Jaipur in Rajasthan and vice versa. ISBT at Transport Nagar, also an interstate bus stand, acts as the stoppage point for various buses.

With well maintained highways, undertaking a road journey to Agra is a convenient option. The NH2, connecting Delhi to Agra is a 200 km and four hour drive. If coming from Jaipur, NH 11 is a four lane divided highway connecting Jaipur to Agra via Bharatpur. The distance of 255 km takes close to 4 hours. National highway 3, caters to travellers from Gwalior. The distance of 120 kms from Gwalior to Agra is usually covered in a span of 1.5 hours. Whereas NH 2, from Kanpur to Agra, takes about 5 hours.

There are a plethora of ways to reach Agra, so take your pick and plan the journey!
