Are you one of those who never return empty-handed from a destination, and always have souvenirs to show off to your relations and friends? Well, Gwalior does not boast of many sophisticated, high-profile city malls but its markets are very lively and colourful. In fact, Gwalior is said to be the home of the oldest bazaars in Madhya Pradesh as well as the famous Chanderi sarees. Here is a brief synopsis of the shopping in Gwalior.

  • Sarafa Bazaar
This is one of the popular markets here. This market is particularly known for its handicrafts, jewellery and handloom items. The exclusive Gwalior culture is reflected in all the items you observe displayed in the shops over here. Lacquer ware, handmade carpets and wall-hangings are treasured acquisitions from Sarafa bazaar. If you are lsooking for authentic cotton and silk sarees, chanderi sarees and brocades, then Kothari’s is the right kind of shop for you.
  • Jiyaji Chowk Bazaar
Jiyaji Chowk is seen by many as the central focus of the town around which thrive a number of markets in the narrow lanes that proceed from this point.
Also called Maharaj Bada market, it is much sought after for its handloom and jewellery collection by both tourists and locals alike.
  • Patankar Bazaar
If you want to take back souvenirs, a lot of handicrafts shops offer artistic stone carvings and artefacts. You may visit Patankar Bazaar to have a taste of the authentic crafts of Gwalior. Mrignayani, a shop in the market is especially famous for its impeccable handlooms.

  • Dindayal City Mall
Well, for those who cannot do without high-end luxury malls, here is the perfect retreat. Dindayal City Mall is the biggest mall of Madhya Pradesh and in every way, it is the symbol of the city’s progress. Here you find a number of international brands like Lee cooper, Spykar, Reebok, McDonalds, Pizza Hut, Crisp Corner and much more. Do check out Ganpatlal Krishna Lal shop, close to Sarafa Bazaar, to shop for beautiful jewellery and antiques. MD Fine Arts in Subhash Market is an ideal place to pay a visit if you are looking for paintings. Very lovely silver boxes decorated with images can be found at Arihant Emporium, which is located close to Jai Villas Palace.

To put it simply, the city of Gwalior does not fall short of options when it comes to catering to your specific needs. Starting from Rajwara, Gandhi Bazaar, Naya Bazaar and Laskar to all that we have already mentioned above and much more, Gwalior seems to have it all.
