So you have covered almost everything in Dehradun and now feel there is nothing much left to explore in this growing capital city of Uttarakhand. Hold on, there are still places (even if they are around Dehradun) you would love to explore and carry some cherishable memories with you. Have a quick glance:

  • Mussoorie
    Known as the Queen of the Hills, Mussoorie is one of the most famous hill stations in India. Located 2000 meters above sea level, this picturesque hill station offers enchanting view of spacious green grasslands and snow clad peaks of Himalayas. A sublime valley adorned with flowers of different colours, cascading waterfalls and streams is just a feast to eyes. Destinations like Kempty Falls, Lake Mist, Mussoorie Lake and Jwalaji Temple are just the tip of the iceberg. The scenery and environment in and around Mussoorie attracts millions of travellers from across the globe each year.

    How to reach Mussoorie- The distance between Dehradun and Mussoorie is 28 kms and it takes around 40 minutes to 1 hour for reaching the latter. You can hire a private cab or shared cab from Dehradun for reaching Mussoorie and the charges are around INR 1000. The route is simply mesmerizing with a scenic background and natural beauty. You can also opt for buses which ply on regular basis from Dehradun to Mussoorie and vice-versa.

  • Paonta Sahib
    Located in the foothills of the Himalayan range, Paonta Sahib is of religious interest to Sikhs, having once been the home of Guru Gobind Singh. The gurudwara also has a museum which is a major tourist attraction. Legend has it that on a journey his horse had stopped here by the bank of River Yamuna and Guru Gobind Singh decided to reside here, writing many religious texts during his stay. Also known for the delicious langar, the Gurudwara also has a museum which curates the Sikh Guru's weapons and other antiques. Now buzzing with commercial activity, Paonta Sahib hosts a large number of industries ranging from cement to pharmaceuticals.

    How to reach Paonta Sahib- The distance between Dehradun to Paonta Sahib is 46 kms and it takes around 50 minutes to 1 hour. Buses and cabs are easily available from Dehradun for Paonta Sahib.

  • Dhanaulti
    Dhanaulti will allure you with its tranquil and enchanting surroundings with the heart-warming view of the snow-capped Himalayas. The main attraction of Dhanaulti is the recently constructed twin eco parks, Amber and Dhara, located at a distance of 200 meters from each other. Housing the beautiful Deodar trees, these parks abound in scenic beauty and serene ambiance. There are small open huts where you can sit and enjoy the surroundings. For children there are various swings promising a fun filled excursion for them. The entry fee for the adults is INR 15 and INR 10 for children. You can also relish hot delicious Maggie, available at the open Maggie Corner inside the park, in a cool and pleasant weather.

    How to reach Dhanaulti- The distance between Dehradun to Dhanaulti is 80 kms and you will reach the place in almost 3 hours. You can opt for private cabs or buses which ply on a regular basis from Dehradun. There are tour packages available which cover around 3-4 destinations in a day.

  • Rishikesh
    A paradise for adventure sports enthusiasts and devotees alike, Rishikesh is one of the most famous vacation spots in India. The place emerged as the World capital of Yoga when the Beatles paid a visit to the ashram of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. The famous Laxman Jhula and the gigantic statue of Lord Shiva meditating in the Ganges, attract millions of devotees every year.

    How to reach Rishikesh- It takes around 40 minutes from Dehradun to Rishikesh as the distance is 45 km. You can easily hire a taxi or private cabs or even buses from Dehradun bus stand for Rishikesh.

  • Haridwar
    One of the seven holiest places for Hindus, Haridwar literally means a 'gateway to God', succinctly capturing its pious and spiritual character. Come here for a spiritual union with the almighty, or just sit by the scintillating river Ganga and watch your stress float away with the swishing water and a cool, refreshing breeze. The city is also famous for 12-yearly Kumbh Mela, when devotees throng here in large numbers. For a truly fervent, spiritual experience, attend the magnificent and elaborate evening 'aarti' and prayer offerings at Har ki Paudi.

    How to reach Haridwar- The distance between Dehradun and Haridwar is 53 km and it takes around 1 hour to reach the latter. You can opt for trains, buses or cabs from Dehradun for Haridwar. There are several trains like Ujjaini Exp, Ddn Indb Exp and Uttaranchal Exp which ply on a regular basis from the capital city.
