Bikaner, a royal city of Rajasthan, is known for a number of things ranging from forts and palaces to sweets and snacks. Junagarh fort, Lallgarh Palace, Kote Gate and Gajner Palace are some of the well known monuments of the city.

When it comes to food in Bikaner, this city is a winner given the dishes prepared here. Some of the popular ones are the much loved Bikaneri Bhujia (a spicy snack made from moth dal, spices and edible oil), Aloo Bhujias, Sattus prepared by mixing water, jaggery, nuts and barley, Dal Bati Churma, Gatta ki Sabzi and Pakodi and delicious super soft Rasgullas among other things. The Station Road in Bikaner is a hub of mouthwatering dishes. Remember to pamper your tastebuds with Rasmalai and Kesar chamm cham, they are really delicious and have a fantastic aroma! Even non-vegetarian food here is terrific. Those of you who like spicy food, try 'Laal Mass' or 'Junglee Mass' (lamb cooked in red hot chilli peppers), a delicacy.

Bikaner is also known for its handicrafts and leather articles. Shopping in Bikaner is all about buying the famous leather products made from camel hide including delicately embroidered ‘mojris’ (slip-on shoes), camel and sheep wool carpets, lacquer work and other handicrafts. The intricately carved Jharokas are also quite famous. These red sandstone stone jalis (screens) are found on the windows of the Junagarh fort, temples and havelis (mansions of Northern India). With the largest Camel Research and Breeding farms in Asia, the city offers the best camel rides and is known for its camel research farm (NRCC).

The majestic forts and palaces, vibrant local markets, beautiful handicraft items and delicious street food make Bikaner a must visit city in Rajasthan. You can also check out Rajasthan travel guide page for more information about other cities in the state.
