Answer: Set amidst tall pine and deodar trees, this quaint little town in the Almora district of Uttarakhand is a site to behold. Overlooking the Western Himalayan peaks, the town of Ranikhet offers to be a perfect summer retreat, especially for people coming in from bigger, urban cities. Its untouched beauty is a sight to behold and because the army restricts all commercial activity here, the town has been able to retain its pristine quality.

The people here mostly belong to the Kumaoni community which defines the culture and lifestyle of the entire town and the surrounding region. People here, largely Hindu, follow religion with absolute devotion but with a certain austerity and quietness that defines the general peace and calm that can be found in the hills. Most peaks are named after the main deity who looks over and protects the region, pointing towards the spirituality of people here. Festivals usually surround around the cycle of harvest and are celebrated with vibrant folk songs and dances, which is each village's way of giving thanks to their gods for a good harvest.

The languages spoken here are predominantly Hindi and Kumaoni, among other various dialects of the Kumaoni region.

Warm and welcoming, the people of Ranikhet will welcome you as one of their own, enough to make you want to stay here forever. There are several trains provided by the Indian Railway to the nearest railway station. Don't forget to check your PNR status before boarding the train.
