What is the popular local cuisine in Bangalore?

0 people found this answer useful Useful ?Yes

While Bangalore lays out the table with dosas, idlis, bhath and pongal for you, it also has a variety of non vegetarian treats and desserts lined up. The street side shops seem to organise a little dosa fair with kali, paper, roast, benne and ragi dosas to pick from. The Bangalore dosas are to die for (but do finish your dosa before you die). Like most southern states the secret ingredient in most recipes is coconut and rice but each with its own unique zest. The cone shaped dosas for example are nice and crispy, while the Akki Roti looks like Uthappams distant cousin. The sambar too is subtly sweet especially when you compare it to the regular Udupi sambar. You can try all of these, plus the tatte idlis among other things at any street side shop.

The spicy Bisibele Bhath, Rava Idlis, Uppittu (spicier upma) and Pongal are other must try dishes.

Bangalore also has its own set of surprises for the meat lovers. Phall is a hot chicken/meat gravy. If you like spicy food, this is your pick! (caution: carry water, sugar, chocolate and a fire extinguisher!) If that doesn’t work try the jackfruit stall. You’ll get a handful of sweet jackfruit bulbs for INR 10 to calm you down.

The city also has borrowed flavours from Arabian and Hyderabadi cuisines. You’ll easily find juicy kebabs, shawarma, falafel and lip smacking biryani. Kerala too has lent some of its fare to Bangalore - appams and stew to name a few.

The thought of seafood may sound delightful no matter but be careful when you order a plate in Bangalore. There is no sea in the vicinity, so it’s as good as eating it in Delhi perhaps.

Top everything you eat with Obattu (sweet pancakes) or payasam to end your meal on a sweet note!
