Situated at an altitude of 2,444 meters above sea level, the Cricket ground in Chail is the highest in the world and is included in the Guinness Book of World Record. Maharaja Bhupinder Singh, in his effort to create the perfect resort town, levelled out the hilltop and created the cricket ground here. From holding ‘friendly' matches between the Maharaja and Britishers to holding competitive matches between schools, the cricket ground has been witness to different generations of teams through distinct eras.
It is unlike any other cricket ground you have come across or played on before. Surrounded by pines and deodars, you can imagine the thrill of hitting the ball with the Shivalik range looming in the distance. Of course, there is the problem of not being able to recover the ball, if you hit beyond the boundary. Remember there is quite a drop from there. So, be careful with the sixes you hit or carry a supply of cricket balls. The grounds are currently owned by the Army, who frequently play Polo matches up here. Additionally, they are also the school playgrounds for the Chail MilitarySchool students. With a basketball court and football goal nets now set up on the grounds, you can also have the thrill of playing basketball and football on a hilltop.
