While cooking, tips from a seasoned cook are always priceless, adding that extra bit of perfection to your dish. Same goes for the experience of a holiday - tips that will guide you towards the path of an exciting, unforgettable vacation. Follow these tips for Sariska and you’ll never feel like a stranger, even though it might be a new city:

  • Reservations

Being a popular tourist destination, especially due to its proximity to other popular destinations like Delhi and Jaipur, Sariska has a lot of hotels and accommodation options. But it is also the same popularity that will require you to book in advance so as to get a good deal and the room of your choice. Confirm your reservation with the hotel before you embark on your journey and carry a printout of the voucher with you.
  • Cash

You might not find any ATM machines precisely in Sariska, but there are plenty of them in Alwar, which is just half an hour away from here. Coming in to Sariska, you’re most likely to cross Alwar, so be sure to withdraw enough cash to sustain your trip. Also, it would be good if you confirm with your hotel if they accept credit cards or not to avoid any last minute surprises.
  • Clothing

Sariska enjoys a moderate climate all through the year, so clothing is not really so much of a hassle. If you’re travelling in the peak of Summer, you’d want to carry cool cotton clothes to ward off the heat. Carry sunglasses during the day to keep the dust and sunlight at bay and of course, some sunscreen lotion, unless you want a brown tan. A mosquito repellent cream is also advisable, especially during an open jeep safari and camping. Your shoes should be comfortable and allow you to move around the rugged terrain in Sariska.
  • Driving

If you’re planning that long road trip to Sariska, make sure you’re fuelled up and that your car is serviced properly. Tyres can literally make or break your trip, so ensure that they aren’t bald to avoid skidding. You won’t be allowed to drive into the national park area as only approved jeeps with guides are permitted inside.
  • Jeep Safari

The ideal way to opt for a jeep safari is through government approved tourist operators, which you will find at the Forest Reception Centre in Sariska. Your hotel could also provide you a wealth of information regarding updated rates and entry charges, and even arrange an excursion for you, so do consult them and compare prices before you settle on a deal. While on a safari, carry water bottles, a basic first-aid kit, sunglasses and a mosquito repellent cream with you. Keep the noise level minimal so as to not scare the animals and birds away.
The sanctuary is open all through the year
except between 1st July and 30th September during which jeep safaris also do not operate.
  • Photography

A photographer’s dream come true, you’ll find yourself behind the lens more often than not if you have even the slightest interest in photography. Still photography bears no charges inside the sanctuary, but if you want to capture a video, you would require to pay a fee of INR 200 for your video camera at the entrance. Try and keep the clicking sound on mute as it tends to alarm jungle creatures away from you. Same goes for flash, the light usually scares these creatures away before you can capture them.

Armed with these handy tips, march ahead confidently for a holiday that you’ve always dreamt of. Memories of a lifetime await!
