Writer’s Building Kolkata

Writer’s Building used to be a residence for the junior writers or clerks of the East India Company and hence the name. Today, this massive red color building situated at the BBD square of Kolkata which is the heart of the city is the secretariat building of the State Government of West Bengal.

According to stories, the spirit of Captain Simpson of British East India Company, who was killed by the famous revolutionaries Binay, Badal & Dinesh, still resides in the building facades. There are various gigantic vacant rooms in the building suspected to be haunted. None of the officials in the building stays here after dusk. The nearby vendors have also reported sounds of someone crying late at night.

Hastings House, Alipore

Hastings house, built by Governor General Warren Hastings for himself is a small part of Belvedere Estate, one of the oldest establishments in Alipore. Today, its a Women’s College of Calcutta University, which now owns the property. The students here have reported different spooky incidents that keep happening there like seeing shadowy figures.

As per stories, Warren Hastings visits the campus in search of some old papers he had lost. His footsteps have also been heard by some students. Others have reported about the spirit of a boy who died here while playing football having suffered terrible injuries. A girl has also reported a woman who was possessed.

Rabindra Sarovar Metro Station

Rabindra Sarovar Metro Station, also known as “Paradise of suicide” is one of the famous haunted places in Kolkata. According to the reports, around 70% of all people who have lost their lives in the tracks of Metro have committed suicide at Rabindra Sarovar Metro Station.

The people who board the last train have had some eerie experiences and some have even reported ghastly shadows of figures during late evenings and at night.

South Park Street Cemetery

South Park Street Cemetery, the oldest burial grounds of the city constructed in 1767, one of the famous tourist spots in Kolkata is a beautiful graveyard with it's classical Greek and Palladian sculptured tombstones tells the stories of so many British who ventured to India and died young.

Sources confirm to spot white fog of humanly figure regularly at the grounds, in the early mornings and late evenings. People residing in the adjacent buildings prefer to keep their cemetery-faced windows closed most of the time.

The National Library

The National Library, known for its rare collection of books also lies in Belvedere Estate premise. There are a few stories around this Library probably due to the mammoth size of the building or the huge piece of land this building acquires. Few people who are a regular visitor here have reported some eerie stories about the building.

According to one of these stories, in early nineties, the British Government had ordered a renovation of the old block and construction of a new complex. During this renovation, twelve labours lost their lives in an accident at the site. It is said that even to this day, the spirits of those workers lurks inside the new complex during the darker hours. Also, people have reported to hear the sounds of footsteps of the former Lieutenant Governor of Bengal, who used to reside in the same building.

There are other haunted places in Kolkata which are reported to be haunted like the third floor of Wipro Kolkata Salt Lake Office where employee visit is restricted. There have been some eye witnesses but till date no one has been harmed in any form. Also, a few eerie stories have been heard about the Kolkata Dock. So, visit these places while you are travelling there and feed your appetite for paranormal!
