You go to a place not to have the same food that is found anywhere and everywhere. You are the types who want to get into the skin of the destination through its local food. If that is true, then you will love the local flavour that Rishikesh has to offer. Here are some of the most amazing ones.

  • Samosa

Life of any breakfast or a short munching session, Samosa is a deep fried snack that is stuffed with chatpata aloo ki pithhi (read delicious potato stuffing). Amazing with a cup of coffee or chai (tea), it can be found at every nook and corner of the town. However, some places try to experiment with it and stuff it with different and interesting stuffings such as mango, apple, or even chocolate.
    One such place is
The Office. This place also treats you with another specialty of theirs which is masala chai.

    Address: Swarg Ashram

    Also try
samosas at The Rajasthani Restaurant located near Triveni Ghat. They serve samosas with specially cooked chole ki sabzi which is a treat for all the foodies. Also try Dosas, kachori, and other such snacks to complete the experience.

    Address: Ghat Chauraha
    Haridwar Road

  • Masala Chai

A classic hot beverage, Tea is loved by all and what could be better than a cup of tea with a tinge of special Rishikesh masala in it. This is like the best beverage one can enjoy while surrounded by the beautiful view of the Himalayas and the river Ganges. One of the best places to have Masala Chai is at Prem’s Namaste Café down in the Laxman Jhula area, with an upstairs sitting area overlooking the Ganga.

    Address: Laxman Jhula Road

Also to try is the famous
Chotiwala which is popular not only for its food but also for its chai (tea).

  • Lassi

A cold beverage that resides in the heart of every North Indian, Lassi is a thicker version of buttermilk. Now, one place that you cannot miss while searching for Lassi is Pappu Lassiwala. Located on the Dehradun Road, this place serves you with the most malaidaar Lassi in a earthen pot (kulad). Also, it is famous for its Mango Lassi.

While you are exploring the local tastes of Rishikesh, also try sweets that are available at the Geeta Bhavan Trust located in the Swarg Ashram area. The sweets are made in pure desi ghee and hence have an authentic taste to it. Try all if you can, but if you cannot then try for sure sweets like Besan ki Barfi, Nariyal ki Barfi and Besan ke Ladoo.

Rest assured, once you dive in the local flavours, it will be difficult to come out of it.
