Jalandhar may not have a lot to offer in terms of sightseeing but it has enough to keep a traveller occupied for a day or two. Most of the structures here stand ready to narrate an ancient episode or two. The following are some of the places that you can visit:
Close to the heart of the city, stand the mighty Imam Nasir Mausoleum (age:800 years) and the relatively younger Jamma Masjid (age:400 years) seem to be taking the test of time quite well. The mausoleum named after a saint is a white structure which is hard to miss in the city bazaar. Snuggling right beside is the Jama Masjid is an example of the talented craftsmanship of the olden days.
This is the classic structure of an ancient temple with a sacred pond running around it. The main temple here shares its grounds with a very popular Kali Temple. Not only is this highly revered by the locals but also travelers flock the place occasionally.
In recent times, a lot of change has been made to the Devi Talab Temple to give it a contemporary niche. Also, a model of the Amarnath Yatra has been added.
Visit in December if you want to be a part of the Hariballabh Sangeet Sammelan, a musical fest is hosted here that welcomes classical music performers from across the state.

It’s a lovely place for a stroll with kids. Dotted with fountains, Niku Park is a delight in the evenings with roller coasters, joyrides and a train for the kids. Then there are ducks, rabbits and other birds. A surprise that kids would love! You could eat at the canteen and look around the close by local markets too. If you are looking for a quiet evening walk, avoid weekends especially Sundays.

Dating to a period before the partition, the St. Mary’s Church is located in the Cantt area of Jalandhar. After being renovated, it was inaugurated on Diwali in 1989. Blessed by the special delegate of Pope John Paul II, this church is a symbol of secular India. You can take a shared auto down to this church from the city. And don’t miss the spectacular paintings on the ceilings.

When Guru Har Gobind (6th Guru) visited Jalandhar, he met Shaikh Darvesh (muslim saint) for a spiritual dialogue. The Gurdwara Chhevvin Padshahi is constructed at the exact location of this conversation. An ancient copy of the sacred Guru Granth Sahib handwritten by the Baba Deep Singh is also present here. The Gurdwara has a peaceful ambience for you to sit and meditate for a while. And the serenity is an absolute contrast to the city hustle. Definitely worth every bit of it.

You can also visit the Singh Sabha Gurdwara at Model Town. An upcoming science city on the Jalandhar-Kapurthala road is also much in news these days. While visiting the Gurdwaras, be appropriately dressed. Both men and women will be required to remove their shoes and cover their heads.
