about day trip to rajapur

Rajapur is a popular pilgrim destination, famous because of being the birthplace of Goswami Tulsidas, a famous poet-saint, who had written Ramcharitmanas, which is a retelling of the Sanskrit Ramayana in Awadhi language. He is also believed to be the composer of Hanuman Chalisa, a devotional hymn sung in praise of Lord Hanuman. The saint was acclaimed to be the reincarnation of Valmiki, the original author of the Sanskrit Ramayana.

There is a small temple dedicated to the poet, on the banks of river Yamuna.

Tulsidas had written 40 verses of the poem, the originals of which is still kept carefully preserved in this temple. The insides of the temple are decorated with glass pieces. The river looks very scenic from this temple. If you have time on your hands, you can sit by the banks of the river, and let the soothing calm of the waters envelope you. Another important temple is the Hanuman temple, the idol in which is believed to have been set by the saint himself.

Apart from other ancient temples, Rajapur also has a busy market. This place has a very ancient or antique feel about it. Walking down the narrow streets, past the dilapidated old mansions and traditional houses with pillared porches, one gets a feeling entering a time warp.
