about makaibari tea estate

Makaibari Tea Estate spreads out over more than 1,600 acres, two-thirds of it dense woodlands and the rest tea. This is also the only tea estate in the entire district that has been run by the same family since its inception in 1859 and is currently under the stewardship of Rajah Banerjee, the great-grandson of the founder, who welcomes visitors to the estate. Call in advance for a tour. To spend the night, stay in a homestay with a tea-worker’s family. In season, you can spend a day in the gardens plucking two leaves and a bud. Or go for a hike, the best way to get a sense of the glorious terrain that is Makaibari.
