You don’t need to be an experienced hiker or seasoned world traveller for a trek. If you are in good shape, love to walk, have an open mind to different cultures and sense of adventure, you can make this dream a reality! Here are some of the best places near Delhi for trekking.

Damdama Lake- Picturesque lake

Situated only 20 Kms from Gurgaon in Gurgaon-Alwar road is one of the biggest natural lakes in the state of Haryana, Damdama Lake. The lake provides ample scope for adventure lovers. You can head here to enjoy trekking and rock climbing. Other attractions here are hot air ballooning, para Sailing, kayaking, cycling, angling, rowing, fishing and nature walks.

Best time to visit the lake is from October to March, late summers and monsoons. Damdama lake is a natural home for birds and more than 190 species of birds, migratory as well as local, visit here during winter season i.e from November to March. This make it even more ideal place for trekking near Delhi.


Perched at a height of 1829 m above sea level, Ranikhet has many trekking routes. Tourists can trek from Ranikhet to Gagas and see the ancient sculptures of the Katyuri Kingdom located at Dwarahat. Travellers can also visit an old Durga Temple that has a bronze plate dated 1181 AD. Another trekking route takes travellers from Ranikhet to Sitalkhet through Kathpuriya,Majhkhali, and Kalika ridges.

The best trekking route in this region starts from Ranikhet and ends at Kausani covering a long Distance of 75 km. Ranikhet offers trekkers an oppurtunity to walk through beautiful lush green forests and fruit orchards

History is not a bygone here. Neemrana is surrounded by awe inspiring landscapes situated among the Aravalli Hills in the Alwar District of Rajasthan. Its a unique destination as it is one of the only places to visit near Delhi which offers a wide range of activities such as Trekking, camel cart rides, multimedia tours, vintage car rides and a thrilling zipping tour. As Neemrana is a small town, Trekking in Neemrana is more like Sightseeing the spectacular views it has to offer. There is a heritage tour at the Neemrana Fort Palace, which takes you to the ancient Baoli (step-well), the marvelous pools, the picture galleries, etc.

Glorious as heaven itself must be, Chakrata is a quaint protected cantonment area blessed with incredible natural beauty. Just an eight hours drive from Delhi, It still remains an unexplored hill station in Uttarakhand. The town has a magnificent view of the Greater Himalaya and any or every hotel you stay at opens you to the window of this spectacular view. Everything surrounding you is delightfully green- Deodar, Himalayan oak and Rhododendron covers the hills.

The sloppy regions of Chakrata are renowned for trekking and skiing. Enjoy here the grandeur natural beauty with trekking expeditions.The walks are beautiful-Tiger Falls at 312 ft, the second highest waterfall in India, is a pleasant and beautiful 5km walk away, just one of the many walks around.Take in the picturesque views of Banderpoonch Massif and the Sarga & Rohini peaks, among others, from Chilmiri Neck. Short treks in any direction will bring you to terrific Jaunsari locations and Deoban.

Tungnath-Chandrashila Peak

The highest of the Panch Kedar- Tungnath is the easiest to reach. Its an easy trek usually for a day or two which starts from Chopta which is three and a half km from Tungnath and ends at Chandrashila Peak. Trek from Tungnath to Chandrashila Peak is almost 4 to 5 hours trek amidst majestic peaks and scenic views. Chandrashila Peak is a broad summit, strewn with cairns and wide views of Mandakini and Alaknanda valleys and the white giants that water them: Chaukhamba, Bandarpoonch, Kedarnath, Neelkanth and several other peaks.

Dharamshala to Chamba

Dharamshala is the starting point to a number of trekking trails, leading trekkers to different destinations. The trek to Chamba can be followed by different routes. The most difficult, hence adventurous, route is Bhim Gasutri Pass (4580 M from Dharamshala), which covers steep cliffs and near-vertical rocky ascents. Owing to the harsh level of trekking here, it takes 5-6 days to reach Chamba. Other moderate routes include trek crossing Bleni Pass (3710 M from Dharamshala) to Dunali on the Chamba Road. The trek along this route gives you an enormous peak of forests and streams. Must visit for the adventure lovers!

Lansdowne- Tiffin Top & Snow View Point

An advantage about Lansdowne is that it is only 245 km from Delhi.Come to this British loved pine-bordered town and lose yourself to tranquil and calm surroundings. Tiffin Top & Snow View Point are the vantage points which offers view of the snow clad peaks of Chaukhamba and Trishul. Trek to these places is not a difficult one and offers great views and a sunset which is extremely remarkable
